Historic Preservation Commission
Thomasville Historic Preservation Commission Design Guidelines
The Historic Preservation Commission performs the duties of regulating historic landmarks and historic districts (pursuant to N.C. General Statutes Chapter 160A, Article 19, Part 3C).
The Thomasville Historic Preservation Commission is a local government agency working to promote and safeguard the historical and architectural heritage of the City through citizen education and the establishment of historic districts and landmarks. The goal of citizen education is to convey to our residents the importance of recognizing the historical heritage of our City as one of our most valued and vital assets. The purpose of establishing local historic districts and landmarks is to encourage the restoration, preservation, rehabilitation and conservation of historically, architecturally and culturally significant areas, structures, buildings, sites, objects and their surroundings: to review new construction design to ensure compatibility; and to safeguard against potential adverse influences which may cause decline, decay or total destruction of these important assets. The conservation and preservation of historic districts and landmarks stabilize and increase property values, promote tourism and strengthen the overall economy of the City.
