North Carolina Civil War Trails
The City of Thomasville is Proud to be a part of the North Carolina Civil War Trails. Thomasville was first known in the Civil War for its shoe factories, but then became a Confederate hospital center in 1865. The hospitals were established in a tobacco warehouse, and in the local Baptist and Methodist churches by Dr. Simon Baruch of South Carolina. The soldiers that past in the hospital, both Northern and Southern, were both buried in the City Cemetery. The City Cemetery is thought to be the only cemetery in the country to have soldiers from both the Union and the Confederate armies buried side by side. Below are some Links, as well as, Pictures that may be of interest.
