Our departments purpose is to serve the City of Thomasville by protecting the public's health, safety, and general welfare. This protection is provided through the enforcement of the technical codes and the General Statues set forth by the State of North Carolina, as well as, Thomasville's Code of Ordnances. It is our goal to enforce these codes in a professional manner and provide knowledge and understanding to contractors, as well as, the citizens of Thomasville. In addition we accept plans for review and issuance of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits.  In addition, we issue permits for demolition, signs, renovation and swimming pools.

You can request a permit for plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical by telephone using your debit or credit card; you can mail a check or you can come in person to our office to obtain your permits.

The Planning Dept. reviews site plans for construction projects; please submit 5 sets of plans with your project.

Office Information
The office staff works from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 and Inspectors work from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Closed for lunch from12:00 NOON – 1:00 P.M.)  If you wish to speak to an inspector, please call during 8:00 – 9:00 mornings or 1:00 – 2:00 afternoons.  They are available to answer your questions and lend assistance during their office hours.

Building Permits
When completing your building permit application, please remember to also complete the workers’ compensation coverage affidavit or provide us with a certificate of insurance.  It is required before a building permit application can be issued.  A permit request for a single family dwelling usually takes 3 days to process and a request for a commercial permit usually takes one week to 10 days to process.  We will contact the general contractor, once the plans have been approved, with the cost of the permit.

Inspections
The Inspections Dept. reviews construction plans; please submit 2 sets of drawings with your application.  Also one set of these plans must be mailed to:
