Our mission is to provide quality “Recreation” for the citizens of Thomasville so as to improve their quality of life through “Leisure Programming”.
The Thomasville Parks and Recreation Dept. has been in existence since 1949. Thomasville was the 18th city in N. C. to have a full time Recreation Dept. The department maintains over 106 acres of recreation property in the City of Thomasville. On these acres are five playgrounds, three tennis courts, a 7,000 sq. foot Skate Park, six outdoor basketball courts, one gymnasium, two recreation centers, one professional size baseball field, one football stadium, one administrative office building, and seven athletic fields. Our staff is made up of eleven full-time employees. The Administrative Staff consists of The Recreation Director, Program Director, Secretary, Adult Athletic/Rentals Coordinator, Youth Athletic Coordinator, and Youth Programs Director. We also have a maintenance staff of five. There are also two part-time assistants for our After School program and one with our Tiny Tot program. In addition, a part-time staff is hired during the summer months. Approximately 40 part-time employees are hired for the summer programs.
